Because Melissa’s posts always make me smile and because this entry is a little bit easier to copycat than some of her others, here is my 2009 Reading List so far. I’m sure it will expand, change, morph, and evolve (yes, ALL of those things) over the next ten months. Disclaimer: please don’t criticize or spoil what I’m reading or planning to read. I love recommendations, but I can’t take it when people are just mean-spirited.
Incomplete (as in, haven’t read it completely yet; * indicates a re-read)
- The Celestine Prophecy, James Redfield (this actually belongs to my lovely MaryBeth, aka Nagini; I’ll return it to her when I remember!)
- The remaining Sookie Stackhouse novels, by Charlaine Harris:
- Living Dead in Dallas
- Club Dead
- Dead to the World
- Definitely Dead
- Dead as A Doornail
- All Together Dead
- YouTube: An Insider’s Guide to Climbing The Charts, Alan Lastufka and Michael W. Dean (sorry Alan! I started reading it when I got it, but then I got distracted by other books)
- Breaking Dawn, Stephenie Meyer* (yes, I’m a glutton for punishment)
- An Abundance of Katherines, John Green (the only book John has written solo that I’ve not yet read; I’m sure t like it if the others are any indication)
- The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald (this and a whole bunch of “complete works of” books that I haven’t read since 4th grade*)
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, F. Scott Fitzgerald (a short story, I know; I have an ebook waiting to be read)
Currently Reading (I’ve never really done this “more than one at a time” thing; it’s mildly daunting)
- Dead Until Dark, Charlaine Harris (book one of the Sookie Stackhouse series; also the basis for the first season of the hit HBO drama True Blood)
- The Ruby in The Smoke, Philip Pullman (recommended to me by the lovely Amy Snow and the brilliant BBC One dramatization starring Billie Piper and Matt Smith)
- Fashion Brands: Branding Style from Armani to Zara, Mark Tungate (I never studied fashion in school, so I’ve made myself into a homeschooled fashion student and I’m learning loads; interesting fact, did you know that the brand ‘Zara’ should be pronounced the Spanish way: “thara”; ah well, once a linguist, always a lingust)
Other Books I Want to Read (but possibly don’t own/possess; I think e-reader or library for most of them)
- The remaining books in the Sally Lockhart series, Philip Pullman (I loved the BBC dramatizations and I liking the first book a lot more than that wretched Golden Compass mess)
- The Shadow in The North
- The Tiger in The Well
- The Tin Princess
- Watchmen, Alan Moore
- Influence, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (I put off buying this, but I’m damn near close to, since every blog I read was obsessed when it debuted)
- Things A Woman Should Know About Style, Karen Homer (can anyone resist a book with Audrey/Holly on the front? I find it increasingly difficult)
- The World of Coco Chanel: Friends, Fashion, Fame, Edmonde Charles-Roux
- The Complete History of Costume & Fashion: From Ancient Egypt to the Present Day, Bronwyn Cosgrave
- The Little Black Book of Style, Nina Garcia (I want to read everything she’s ever written before Marie Claire has her fade into relative obscurity)
- The Fashioned Body, J Entwistle
- Mastering Fashion Styling, Jo Dingemanns
- Your suggestions and recommendations

I highly recommend you read any and all of Jodi Picoult’s books…I have never been let down by her…or Philippa Gregory for that matter. You should also read Jeanette Walls’ The Glass Castle’ and ‘Dish.’

Oh and you really ought to read Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series. It is the BEST vampire fiction series I have ever read. No other author has come close to Hamilton’s characters, plot or style.

I’ve finished all of the Sookie Stackhouse books! They aren’t the best written but boy are they brain candy.
As you are a fashionista, I would advise ignoring some of Sookie’s wardrobe descriptions…they can be vomit inducing.
